Here’s my rambling Sunday night thought, and it may garner me some hate.
First and foremost the Kia Stinger GT2 in this grey color (similar to Chrysler Destroyer Grey/Focus RS Stealth Grey/Audi Nardo you get the idea) is absolutely stunning. Being that at the end of the day it IS a KIA it’ll likely depreciate as fast as a Walmart Android phone and this brings up an interesting dilemma doesn’t it?
You see, in a year or two when a Stinger GT2 drops into the low 30s or high 20s, there will be an interesting market niche that is otherwise kind of untapped. A car with serious luxury options with impressive performance and factory warranty remaining is an interesting proposition. I’ve driven a GT2 (it was red and beautiful) and I found it to be an incredible car and an incredible all-arounder if you will.
Handling, luxury, a beautiful interior with exterior looks to match all powered by a twin turbo V6 and potentially for less than a new Accord. If this does happen, I believe I’ll have found my next car and you’ll be seeing me write about it from here on out.
Am I the only one that sees this as a massive win?

No, you’re not. I don’t love the grey, but I’ve driven the car, and liked it.
For me, it was a touch numb , and the lack of headroom in the back was a deal killer. Wish it had a manual, but it’s a fun car to drive.

I definitely didn’t sit in the back but I could imagine head room would be more limited. Very good point there indeed. It wasn’t razor sharp but I found it to be very fun to drive.

I wonder if the first owners are going to hold onto them longer because they have so much warranty left. Could be a bit until they hit the used market in any numbers.

Most cars are fairly numb these days. Between most consumers not giving a shit and electric power steering, that’s just the way it is.
Head room may or may not matter depending on what you need. I have a 2 year old who we still have to buckle in. If he was 8 I wouldn’t care. Ended up with a used E Class ( TTV8 FTW) but I like the GT2 and at a bargain price in 2- 3 years I think you’d do well.

On the rare occasion that I visit a new car showroom, I always sit in the backseat first. Some of them are pretty awful, especially those dreadful little crossover SUV things.
For the Stinger, I don’t have any interest in the GT/GT2. I want to drive the base model and see what it’ll do. Four cylinders, 255 HP and 260 torques at a mere 1400 rpm. But probably also a bunch of that eco crap where the engine stops at the stop lights and such and $300 key fobs and all that other modern car mumbo jumbo and they’ve sure made cars undesirable and they FOR SURE won’t be around in 30 years like my ‘89 Camry is.
Did that morph into a rant? So
be
it. At least now, you know how I feel. And the tires on the GT2 are prob
ably $250-300
apiece, and fancy rims begging to rub a curb somewhere...

Hadn’t really thought about it! I was actually browsing CPO SQ5s yesterday and lamenting how well they hold their value. Then I went to look at X3s with the 35i engine and was pleasantly surprised at how much cheaper than the Audi they are. I’ll probably be looking to replace my A4 Avant within a couple of years and I’m mostly looking at those two but an AWD Stinger would more than do the trick!

I don’t know, a car with less rear headroom than my IS kind of defeats the purpose of a car with four doors. That said, I would strongly consider it before a used Accord /6/Camry.
I wonder how the rear space compares to the A5 Sportback...

Having engine torque peak at 1400 RPM is good. Even great. But it depends on lag and transmission settings...

I have a stinger and at 6'3" 220lbs I can sit in the back comfortably. I guarantee that Audi, Lexus, Mercedes, or bmw weren’t as lucky to have their first sports sedan be as quality, luxurious, and speedy as kia in their first a ttempt. Also, the maintenance and upkeep of the stinger compared to the other luxury brands is less than half. So the total cost of the stinger is a win all the way around for Kia .

Yes, that’s the only way you’ll get all that torque at such low RPM from a 4 (unless it’s a diesel, I guess).

It was a RWD GT2 and honestly I found it to be a very good handling and fun car. Steering did have some vagueness similar to the F30 but slightly better. Brakes and handling where great and the car felt very well put together.
